Exciting new features in nRF Connect SDK v1.8

nRF Connect SDK is Nordic's software development kit for developing Bluetooth® Low Energy, Bluetooth® mesh, cellular IoT, Thread, Zigbee, Matter and other applications. nRF Connect SDK provides one code base for all supported protocols and is a scalable solution that supports our nRF52, nRF53 and nRF91 Series.


In this webinar, we give a short introduction to nRF Connect SDK, followed by the exciting new features in nRF Connect SDK v1.8.


 Highlights:
  • Introduction to nRF Connect SDK and main terminology
  • Added support for running the Bluetooth LE Host and Controller in the nRF5340 network core, with full Bluetooth Host API to the application core.
  • Added support for using any nRF52 Series SoC as a Bluetooth LE network processor, with full Bluetooth LE Host API to an external MCU.
  • Added Bluetooth: Central and Peripheral HRS sample to demonstrate how to use Bluetooth LE with Central and Peripheral roles concurrently.
  • Added experimental support for Periodic Advertising in the SoftDevice Controller
  • For the nRF52 Series SoCs, added support for a 3-wire Packet Traffic Arbitration (PTA) interface, a common coexistence interface used by Wi-Fi radios.
  • For the nRF52 Series SoCs, added experimental support for 1-wire PTA interface, a coexistence interface specifically for the nRF9160 System-in-Package (SiP).
  • Warning messages in the build output will now be generated if any experimental features (Kconfig symbols) are enabled.
  • The Modem library for nRF9160 has been updated to version 1.4.1 with improvements and support for Modem version 1.3.1.
  • Improved energy consumption of Matter over Thread devices with Thread’s Sleepy End Device role.
  • The Apple HomeKit repository has been updated to ADK v6.1 and is integrated with nRF Connect SDK v1.8. HomeKit over Bluetooth LE and HomeKit over Thread are now supported for the nRF5340 SoC.
  • The proprietary 2.4 GHz wireless protocol Gazell is supported on all nRF52 Series SoCs, with related libraries and samples.
